It's not unusual to see Ocean Sunfish in small groups, especially the smaller individuals. I started wondering about this a little more when posting this photo. How do they find each other? Is there a value to staying together? Or do they just converge on a good food source?
It was easy to see sunfish on this boat trip because the sea conditions were relatively calm. The boat went by this group relatively quickly, so I was lucky to catch them in a photo.

I saw one of these way back when I was chasing whales in the Gulf of Maine. Still one of the strangest looking fish I've ever seen.
