Pile of pups

Thanks to a visit with Paul, we took a quick trip out to Point Reyes today and encountered some nice views of Northern Elephant Seal (Mirounga angustirostris) pups.

It looks like this female has several pups. Is that possible?

Hi!

Well, I think these are *all* pups. It's getting late in the season, and many of the pups are now on their own and most of the females have left the beaches. (Although we saw a few adult females.) At this time, weaned pups often hang out together in small "pods." Many of the pups are looking pretty plump, so they might look larger than you expect.
