Pacific Loon in the afternoon

I spent about an hour with a beautiful Pacific Loon this afternoon.  Here is a close-up shot.

 

The loon was diving and feeding on small fish, and also spent some time preening.  After distributing oil from its preen gland (near the base of the tail) throughout its back feathers, the loon then rubs its head on its back to spread the oil to its head feathers.
