Red and white

A busy day, so no pictures today.  That means tonight's image is a "photographer's choice."  I browsed around in the archives and randomly chose this marine invertebrate from the rocky intertidal zone on Bodega Head:

 

In some situations, Gooseneck Barnacles (Pollicipes polymerus) become very white and smooth...and their "lips" are crimson red.  Most often this occurs when the barnacles are shaded and when there's waterborne sand or gravel nearby that erodes the outer portions of their shells.  It creates a very striking pattern!
