One of these things...

...is not like the others:

Sanderlings (Calidris alba) and one Dunlin (Calidris alpina), Salmon Creek Beach, 9 May 2017

  1. I was at Pinnacle Gulch beach this same day and noticed flocks of several hundred Sanderlings. They seemed to be feeding far above the water line scratching the sand in large swaths less than 1/4" deep. Do you know what they were doing/eating?

  2. Hi!

I also saw a very large flock of Sanderlings at Pinnacle Gulch several weeks ago. It looked like they were feeding on young mole crabs, but I didn't check carefully to be 100% certain.
