For a little more information about jaegers, you can review the post called "The chase is on!" from 2 September 2013.
P.S. "Jäger" means "hunter" and refers to the aggressive feeding behavior of these birds, i.e., chasing other birds to force them to give up their food.
I really enjoy your photos from your pelagic trips - it's a world so many of us don't see very often. We took a trip with Michael Ellis's Footloose Forays, out to the Farallones with and surroundings, and I got totally hooked on the wildlife out there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for these photos.
Thanks, Alice! I always feel very lucky when I get to spend some time offshore...and excited to be able to share some photoa of our open ocean neighbors!
