Exceptional

  

 
It was still a bit breezy at the end of the day today (3 May 2021), and the tide was high, so there were some nice groups of shorebirds sheltering along the north end of Bodega Harbor.  

The Red Knots (Calidris canutus) were in nearly full breeding plumage.  Eric and I traded the camera back and forth and ended up with a few shots showing their exceptional russet colors and beautifully patterned feathers.  [You can click on the images for larger versions.]


 

 
Most of these shorebirds are headed north to the tundra now, but it sure is nice to see them in this plumage!
