Quick shot of a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) with prey, an American Coot (Fulica americana). You can see the lobed feet of the coot. Photographed flying over Bodega Harbor today, 20 March 2024.
I was doing a sea bird survey Friday at Gull Rock when a juvenile Bald Eagle (1st or 2nd year) swooped down and plucked a Common Murre out of the water then flew up to the top of the rock and had a feast. Amazing! Not so good for the Murres.
this is your reward, Jackie, for being out so much, always looking and always ready.
