Today the seawater temperature off Bodega Head reached 17.5°C (63.5°F). That's one of the warmest temperature readings I've seen since moving here 10 years ago! It made me look out at the ocean and wonder where that warm water was coming from:
Even far offshore, at the NDBC Bodega Bay buoy, the seawater temperature passed 61°F today.

What could be causing the rise in temperature? I'd always associated El Nino and rising ocean temps, but from what I've been reading, chances for an El Nino this year are fading. Yet the ocean temp is rising?
This morning's BOON website shows 64.4 degrees. What is going on?
Also: I remember back when we were opposing the PG&E nuclear power plant at the Head, one of Dr. Hedgepeth's main concerns was that the expected increase in water temps caused by the power plant would play havoc with his long-term studies. Is that of concern now with these increases?
