Sailor at sea
By-the-wind Sailor (Velella velella) during the offshore boat trip on 7 May 2023. We encountered quite a few convergence zones with lots of Velella sailing over smooth seas. [You can click on the image for a larger version.]
Looks pretty lonely out there, I'd say. I can imagine an accompanying photo with the Sailor as a speck and the horizon far in the distamce :) Very calm seas.
I did try to take a photo with a group of Velella, but they were spread pretty far apart and so it was tough to get all of them in focus, especially while the boat was moving!
