Wow! I’ve never seen this stunning sea anemone, and I participated in intertidal surveys in Humboldt County. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, this burrowing anemone prefers more gravelly areas, so it's a little harder to see than some other species that are more common on rocks or in tidepools.

Note the color pattern of this species is highly variable:
