Landscape with tattler

 

I heard the wonderful calls of a Wandering Tattler this afternoon.  No pictures today, but here's one from back in April.

P.S.  I like the way the tattler blends in with this rocky landscape.  To find it, scan for a very small pale gray sandpiper perched on the bare rock near the center of the image.

Little palms

I know what it's like to miss seeing a species that you connect with.  So here are a few Sea Palm (Postelsia palmaeformis) photos.  I'll post some images from 2020 some time this spring, but for now I browsed my archives and found some nice shots from the past 14 years.  Enjoy!

Sea Palm is a wonderful kelp that looks like a little palm tree.  It lives along the rocky outer coast in wave-exposed sites.

Okay, here you go.  I've labeled some of the animals and algae I discovered in the scene below.  I wouldn't be surprised if you found different things!

This is a very small section of rock from the low intertidal zone on Bodega Head, photographed on 15 June 2014.  

Sometimes it's fun simply to enjoy all of the different colors and patterns and textures.  Other times I like to try to find as many different types of animals and algae as possible in one picture.  Want to try?

I won't reveal the answers tonight, but I'll show this picture again tomorrow, with labels.
