Throwback?

  

I was working on some file sorting tonight, so here's a "throwback" photo of sorts — from Point Reyes back in December 2007.

Before the rain

  

The ocean was a bit churned up today (5 March 2021) ahead of cold front that will bring some rain tonight.

January swell

  

Large west northwest swell today (12-15 feet).  [You can click on the images for larger versions.]

 

 

Waves are predicted to be large through the week and into the weekend.  Please be safe and heed high surf advisories.  You can check for them on the NWS/San Francisco Bay Area website here or on their Twitter feed here.

 

Season of light

Hmmm...what to show to help celebrate the Winter Solstice?  How about something to do with light?

[You might find a different one, but the bear I noticed is in the lower right corner, sitting down (with its two arms above its legs), and looking forward, with its gaze following the direction of the surf.]

Also looked like quite a bit of bird activity near shore — perhaps there's some bait fish around?

 

Surf and a sailor

We noticed one small By-the-wind Sailor (Velella velella) washed ashore today.  This individual was ~2 cm long.

Whitewater

  

It's been "breezy" for the past couple of days, leading to lots of whitewater close to shore.
