Northwest winds
If felt like spring today, with strong 20-25 knot northwest winds.
I'm guessing the swell was ~12-14 feet when I took this picture ~mid-day today (18 February 2017).

Looks like someone crumpled up a ball of aluminum foil and then spread it out flat again. Lovely!!
Yes, I'm fascinated by the complex patterns that the wind creates on the water. And I agree -- the ocean can look so silvery and metallic sometimes. When "frozen" in a photo, these textured silvery seas can look more like a sculpture!
