Nostalgia for stars
Sunflower Star (Pycnopodia helianthoides). Sometimes I really miss seeing Sunflower Stars, so here's an older photo from 2006. (We haven't seen this species in the Bodega Bay area since 2014 after their populations were decimated by disease.)
This is my favorite star, perhaps because they ate my sea cucumbers. It was very interesting to put one into a tidepool full of urchins and watch the stampede.
I did a double-take when seeing this photo until scrolling down to see the caption with date, Jackie. We used to see 4 or 5 in a day and I really miss them too.
