Gliding and arcing

Black-footed Albatross (Phoebastria nigripes) were in view for most of the day during the pelagic trip on 23 May 2021.  Sometimes they were in the distance, other times very close to the boat, often there were more than 15 in view at one time.  Here are a few different perspectives:

I like knowing that albatross are gliding and arcing over the waves around the globe.

Hi, Moose!

I think the wingspan of Black-footed Albatross is ~7 feet. It's quite something to watch them flying over the waves, whether it's close by or out at the horizon.

P.S. I think Wandering Albatross have a wingspan of ~10-11 feet!

Hi, Alice!

Thank you! Those silhouette shots are some of my favorites. It's fun because that's the view looking west as the boat heads back to Bodega Harbor. It's a very nice ending to an offshore trip!
