Owl moon?

We heard Great Horned Owls calling outside of our house tonight (25 March 2024), so I stepped outside to listen.  A great night for owls -- calm, clear, lots of stars, and a bright moon to the east.  An owl moon!  :)

While brushing my teeth this morning, a great horned owl landed on the roof adjacent to our bathroom window. It stayed a couple of minutes, then flew off. As it flew off I could see that it had something in it's talons but I wasn't able to identify it.
I was surprised to see your posting when I came down and opened my computer ( always the first thing I look at in the morning.

Hi, Dale!

What fun to see an owl while brushing your teeth! Late winter/early spring can be a good time of year to see and hear Great Horned Owls -- especially on cold, clear nights. They're early nesters -- nesting early in the breeding season -- so they could be setting up territories or preparing nests or incubating eggs.

Thanks for sharing your observation!
